(PRESS RELEASE) — The island’s tourism authorities earlier today welcomed Air Canada back to the destination for the first time since reopening the borders amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The highly anticipated flight touched down at approximately 2:30 pm at 99% capacity, bringing both visitors and returning nationals to a familiar backdrop.

From the USA, we also welcomed the first Winter Flights of United Airlines from New Jersey, JetBlue from Boston, and an additional American Airlines flight from Miami. Our scheduled flights from Delta out of Atlanta, JetBlue out of New York and British Airways from London were also welcomed.

All 725 travelers were met with a full complement of Protocols in place, including a fully staffed nurses’ station, added sanitizing stations and physical distancing markers as well as thermal scanners.

With the increasing number of flights, it also means that more accommodation providers have opened with more hospitality workers and ancillary service providers back on the job and more taxi drivers are also returning to work.

SLTA: From the USA, the destination welcomed an additional three flights with a second American Airlines flight (2296) from Miami, the return of United Airlines (449) from Newark, and JetBlue (363) from Boston.
