PRESS RELEASE – Teachers and students of the Micoud Primary School are becoming increasingly frustrated as ailing school furniture prove to be a hazard to their health and safety.

Teachers and parents of students attending the Micoud Primary School have complained bitterly about the termite infested furniture that has been the source of much discomfort to both students and teachers. After nearly a year of exchanges with Ministry of Education officials, promises of new furniture have failed to materialise.

Prior to the closing of school in July of this year, the teaching staff was assured that the old furniture would be replaced at the start of the new academic year, in September. To date no new school furniture has arrived.

The concerns of parents, teachers and students have been compounded by the fact that the dilapidated furniture, further to being termite infested is literally falling apart with nails being exposed presenting a further risk to the safety of the students.

Protruding nails and splinters have already caused damage to new school uniforms of both the students and teachers, causing additional anguish especially to parents, given the tough economic situation in the country.

Teachers and parents have exercised considerable patience and understanding but can no longer put up with the situation. The teachers have also asked that cupboards be built in the classrooms to facilitate the storage of their teaching aids. They are being forced to store their critical teaching aids in the janitors’ cupboards which have in recent times become infested with insects and termites, rendering the teaching aids unsuitable for use.

MP for Micoud North, Dr. Gale Rigobert is calling upon the Ministries of Infrastructure and Education to address the matter to ease the discomfort felt by teachers and students and more importantly to avert any impending harm that could come to students because of the severely compromised furniture.

  1. Dr. Gale Rigobert if you are the MP for Micoud North...why cant you try and do something for the school. don't you realize if you go out of your way and try to raise funds to get furniture for the school (being in opposition) it will work in your favour. but instead you play politics with the education of our youths. the youth are the future.
not because you are in opposition that you should sit back and do nothing and wait for the current gov to fail.

that is the problem with these politicians.....when will they change when will they learn.

one thing ALL politicians whether blue yellow red or green....yall kno how to play games.

  4. IS THAT YOUR ROLE?
Solidarity those words will not be spoken in connection with the aging school furniture, and there is a valid reason why, the past and present representatives of Micoud has and is not doing a darn thing to help the community in any way shape or form. When spoken about them they portray themselves with many guises, some with their screw faces others their poker face and still others grinning away
But they all have one thing in common they represent themselves and screw little Micoud. There is lots that can be done for Micoud which was once being represented by the man in charge, he did not think Micoud was worth the trouble except to win our senior citizen votes, this is the legacy he left us, yes the others that have join his ranks learn well, they too are not doing a dam thing for Micoud, so don’t expect to see school furniture this side of the century
It may become possible when one of those dilapidate school furniture injured or kill a student someone will then give a dam, why is that Micoud cannot get a break and be well represented it is a progressive village and has produce many smart scholars its farmers were among the top growers, even its own sons and daughters have abandoned it in representation, go ahead call upon the Ministries of infrastructure and education till you blue in the face see if they move an inch as if you care
Every Micoud representative is fighting for a foot hold to live life as comfortable as they can none cares for the poor and needy of poor Micoud not even Micoud care about itself anymore, it has been left behind for so long, pass over so many times and you dare bring your problem to surface about worthless school furniture what a joke how dare you, we don’t service Micoud period. Unite Micoud people fight for your rightful place and help yourself if you can.
