PRESS RELEASE – As part of its overall goal for Protected Areas (PA) management, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology would like to establish and sustain an effective and integrated system of PA for Saint Lucia.
Under the current PA Management Programme, Saint Lucia hopes to finalise a national plan for a system of PA by the end of the current financial year.
In that regard the Ministry is excited to report that it has received technical support for hosting a workshop on PA management in Saint Lucia on November 19, 2015.
This support is being provided by the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management Programme (BIOPAMA) Caribbean Region; and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) through its Regional Office for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (ORMACC).
The workshop will be jointly facilitated by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology PA Management Programme and officers from BIOPAMA and IUCN.
It will address current gaps in Saint Lucia’s PA management strategy and inform plans for advancing the national plan for PA.
Representatives of agencies with a PA management mandate have been invited to participate in the workshop which will be held at the Conference Room, Orchid Garden Centre, Union, Castries, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology salutes the efforts of the Saint Lucia National Trust and other agencies towards strengthening PA Management in Saint Lucia and looks forward to successful deliberations towards advancing the policy framework for PA in Saint Lucia.
