Adidas Cricket forced to apologise after tweeting caricature of Dwayne Bravo

Bravo Pic_0CNC3 – A caricature of cricketer Dwayne Bravo that Adidas Cricket used to celebrate his record achievement in T20 cricket, has landed the sports company in some hot water with some Twitter followers and has forced the company to take the picture down.

Adidas Cricket posted the photo on its Twitter Account @adidascricket on Monday, to celebrate Bravo’s 300 wickets in T20 cricket, which he achieved with the Gujarat Lions against Kings XI Punjab.

However, the way Bravo is depicted in the caricature is not sitting well with many followers.

The photo was retweeted several times with many objecting on the grounds that it was racist.

Nigel posted: “@adidascricket What’s the deal with this ugly caricature of @DJBravo47? It’s a stereotype of a long past era. Tasteless, tactless and crude.”

  1. One cannot say "only a caricature" because that's an oxymoron. That's the same as saying "only an exaggeration".
A caricature is a negative exaggeration of someone's known features. Why would Adidas want to show Bravo in a negative light when he has done something positive. That beats me. At best one might conclude that they were trying to be funny but that's really a poor sense of humour.
    Adidas Cricket should apologize !!

  2. Very careless and irresponsible, especially as in recent times the West Indies team was called a team with no brains.
