A man who is accused of raping a woman and assaulting her with a cutlass in the process has decided not to hire a lawyer.

The man has been charged with rape and assault. The incident took place in Anse La Raye on December 7, 2011  between 1:20 pm and 2:20 pm.

The accused, who is currently on remand at the Bordelais Correctional Facility, will prepare and file his defence statements with the assistance of a probation officer.

He will then return to court on March 21, 2013 for a trial date to be set.
