Motorists are being urged to take the necessary safety measures when traversing the island’s roads.

So far this year over a dozen road fatalities have occurred on the island’s roads, wreaking havoc for many families.

Speaking at the recent opening of the new Bonne Terre bridge, member of Parliament for Gros Islet, Emma Hippolyte encouraged drivers to respect safety requirements when using the new bridge at all times.

She said it is important that motorists observe the speed limits and various traffic signs.

“To our mini-bus drivers and drivers in general I say much effort and money was spent in designing and constructing this bridge and our area of focus was public safety. I therefore exalt drivers to place the same emphasis on safety when using this particular stretch of road,” she said.

The Gros Islet MP appealed to motorists to drive with due care and caution and remember always that safety comes first.

  1. By teh way granny Emma the bridge super elevation and approaches do not help with road safety. I hope an ambulance never travel there too fast. So yur next job is to ensure we have competent contractors and engineers overseeing that our hard earned tax money is used adequately and not to give to the persons who supported yur part financially during the campaign
