The Saint Lucia National Cricket Association’s Inter-Club 50 over competition got underway over the weekend, despite inclement weather on Saturday.
On Saturday at Mindoo Phillip Park, New Park defeated Crusaders by four wickets, in a high-scoring game reduced to 25 overs a side.
Crusaders made 165/4, led by an unbeaten half century from Dwight Khalisle Thomas. Dwight, 23 years old, hit 72 not out, supported by 41 from Alex Antoine 41 and 30 from Kervon Lewis 30.
With the scores level at 165 and six wickets down, New Park won it with a maximum hot, ending 171/7. Mervin Wells led with 52, and Malcolm Monrose made 47.
Kervon Lewis completed a solid all-round performance, taking two wickets, albeit for an expensive 37 runs.
On Sunday at the same venue, Unique beat Forestierre by seven wickets in a very low-scoring encounter. This one was reduced to 45 overs per innings.
Forestierre were all out for 91, Kermel Dorleon taking four for 24. Unique knocked off the runs for the loss of just three wickets, ending on 94/3. Joshua Mann took two for 14 for Forestierre.
At Dennery, Malgretoute Youth Movement got the better of Serie A by seven wickets. Serie A made 147 and MYM replied with 148/3.
Matches which were not played last weekend due to the inclement weather will be played this coming Saturday, with the second round due to commence this coming Sunday.
