(SNO) — Another round of matches was concluded in the 2019 SLNCA/Sandals Inter District 50 Over Under-19 Cup on Wednesday.

Defending champions Gros Islet made it two wins out of two with an 83-run win over Central Castries at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Gros Islet Under 19, led by West Indies Under 19 and West Indies B batsman Kimani Melius with 93 and a five-wicket haul from former Windward Islands Under-15 player Udel Preville, earned a comfortable 82-run victory.

Gros Islet was dismissed for 249 in the 48th over. Melius’s 93 included 6 fours and 6 sixes, Zidane Arthur added 44, 20 each to Lee Solomon and Dominic Auguste and Garvin Serieux with 12. Chaz Cepal took 4 wickets for 23 runs in 5 overs, Jaden Elibox 2 for 36 in 9.3 overs and 1 wicket each to Darren Sammy Jr and Mc Kenny Clarke.


In reply, Central Castries was bowled out for 167 in 39.3 overs, Cepal top-scoring with a fighting knock of 68 with 5 fours and 4 sixes, Ryhim Joseph 26 and 13 each to Mateo Boulogne and Kyle Adonis. Off-spinner Udel Preville was Gros Islet’s most successful bowler with 6 for 38 in 8.3 overs. Simeon Gerson lent excellent support with 3 for 34 in his quota of 10 overs.

Soufriere Under 19 was again engaged in an enticing encounter, this time they took on Vieux Fort at the Philip Marcellin Grounds. Vieux Fort won the toss and went in to bat, but struggled to cope with the Soufriere seamers from the get-go. A low-scoring match in which extras would top-score, Vieux Fort could only muster up 78 all out in 19. 3 overs. The main wicket-takers for Soufriere were Kervel Prospere with 4 wickets for 25 runs in 6.3 overs, Tertius Jones gave great support with 3 wickets for 18 runs in 6 overs. Opening bowler Trevor Edward took 2 for 16 in 3 overs, a total of 36 extras didn’t help Soufriere’s cause.

In reply, Soufriere got off to a poor start losing Arkim for a duck but were able to pull the innings back together thanks to a well-composed 21 not out from skipper Xytus Emmanuel. With little runs on the board, the Vieux Fort bowlers contributed 34 extras to the Soufriere total as Soufriere got to their target for the loss of 4 wickets in 15.2 overs. The main wicket takers for Vieux Fort were Sachin Charles 2 wickets for 20 runs in 3 overs and Tyrone Theodore 1 wicket for 8 runs in 4 overs. In the end Soufriere won quite comfortably by 6 wickets.

At the La Ressource Playing Field, home team Mabouya Valley suffered their second consecutive defeat, losing to  South Castries U19 by 46 runs. South Castries made 211 (33.5 overs) led by 77 from national U15 captain Tarrick Edward. Martin  Stanislaus took 5 for 56.

Mabouya Valley in response were dismissed for 165 in 29.5 overs. Nowelle Leo took 6 for 30.

One match is carded for Thursday: Vieux Fort v Choiseul at Phillip Marcellin Ground.
