4 arrested for shooting Guyana Revenue Authority officers

(GUYANA NEWSROOM) – Four men have been arrested in connection with the shooting of law enforcement officers attached to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) on June 7, 2018.

The perpetrators are Ravindra Ramdeo of Lot 217 Section ‘D; Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara (ECD), Stephon Motielal and Trevor Motielal of Lot 30 Green Field Bee Hive, ECD and Andrew Motielal of Lot 11 – 12 Helena, Mahaica, the GRA said in a statement.

The GRA said the perpetrators are expected to appear in court shortly. On Thursday last, three Law Enforcement and Investigation (LEID) Officers of the GRA were the target of gunfire during an anti-smuggling operation in Beehive, East Cost Demerara.

News Room had reported that two of the officers sustained injuries and were subsequently treated at a private hospital.

A police release noted that the shooting occurred at approximately 21:50hrs soon after the officers arrived at a house and questioned its owner. The police said two vehicles approached and the occupants discharged several rounds at them. Both officers were shot in their hands.

It was noted that the GRA officers adapted tactical positions and returned fire; as a result, the vehicles sped away.
