PRESS RELEASE – The 2015 Veterans Football tournament organised by Veterans in Sports Inc in Association with the ST Lucia Football Association was officially launched last evening at the players pavilion of the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
The tournament this year has as it ‘s theme “Our time we never quit”. The tournament this year will see sixteen teams competing with two champions being crowned an overall champion who will lift the Caribbean Alliance Cup and a plate champion.
The tournament has a new and exciting format this year with the sixteen teams playing each other on a round robin basis in the groups with the top two teams moving on the next stages of the tournament on a knockout basis until an eventual champion is crowned. What will also happen this year is that the teams finishing third and fourth will move on to another stage of the tournament on a knockout basis until a winner will be crowned as the plate champions.
The overall winners of the tournament proper will receive the Caribbean Alliance Cup and 7000 dollars and a brand new kit worth 3000 thousand dollars. Second place finishers take home 4000 dollars, third place 3000 and fourth place 2000 dollars. The plate champions will receive 2000 dollars, second place gets 1500 dollars, third place 1000 dollars and fourth place 800 dollars.
Matches at this year’s tournament will be played at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort and the Soufriere Mini Stadium. The tournament kicks off on Saturday November 7th 2015 at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort with a March pass of all the participating teams, opening ceremony and then three matches will be played after.
This year the Veterans Tournament is being organised in partnership with the Governing body of football on the island the ST.Lucia Football Association whose President Lyndon Cooper said he was delighted to be working in partnership with Veterans in Sports Inc in putting on this year’s tournament.
At the launch last night Blackheart Productions presented some footballs to the Bordelais Correction Facility for a special competition they will be staging there on Friday, a kit to the Anglican Schools Football team and a cheque to up and coming youth cricketer Jard Goodman to aid him in purchasing a brand new Cricket bat.
On a solem note last evening local entrepreneur and yachting consultant Cuthbert Didier, CEO of Blackheart Productions David “shakes ” Christopher and CEO of Veterans in Sports Inc Alvin Malaykhan presented money contributions to the fire victims in Soufriere to aid in their rehabilitation and to assist in starting up a fund for fire victims on the island through the office of the prime minister.
All participating teams in the tournament this year also received a football compliments the Minister of Youth Development and Sports Shawn Edward.
