(PRESS RELEASE) — The Windward Islands under-15 cricket team made it two victories in as many matches as the 2019 CWI Regional Under-15 Cricket Tournament continued in Antigua.
On Sunday, April 14, at the Coolidge Playing Field, the Windward Islands, led by another steady bowling display by their seam bowlers, registered a comfortable five-wicket victory over Jamaica.
Jamaica, choosing to bat first after winning the toss, was dismissed for 97 in 29.2 overs with Steven Wedderburn making 37 and Julani Sinclair, 15.
Doing the damage with the ball for the Windward Islands were seamers Davin Tyson with impressive figures of 3 for 9 in 5.2 overs, Solomon Bascombe 3 for 32 in 8 overs, and Saint Lucia’s Shawnil Edward, 2 for 21 in 5 overs.
The other two wickets went to spinners Deshonte Thomas and Luke Wilson with one wicket each.
Chasing a victory target of 98, the Windward Islands, despite losing a few wickets towards the end of their run chase, finished comfortably on 98 for 5 in 22.1 overs.
Saint Lucia’s Stephen Abraham top-scored for the Windward Islands with a good-looking 34, captain Divonie Joseph with 15 and Reshawn Lewis with 14.
At the end, the not-out batsmen were Kervyn Gangadeen on 14 not out and Shawnil Edward on 2 not out.
Jordan Johnson was Jamaica’s most successful bowler with 2 for 25 in 6.1 overs.
