(PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – Seventeen (17) governmental and non-government institutions, with data and information management mandates will become signatories to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on institutional arrangements for cooperation on environmental information management in Saint Lucia.
The goal of this MOU, is to establish a mutually beneficial partnership for accessing and sharing of data pertinent to reporting on Multi-lateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) says Minister for Sustainable Development, Dr. Gale Rigobert.
Under the “Increase Saint Lucia’s Capacity to Monitor Multilateral Environmental Agreements Implementation and Sustainable Development Project”, the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development, through its Department of Sustainable Development, engaged the various stakeholder agencies in a series of informative presentations.
Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Agencies and Technical Officers were sensitized on the objectives and significance of the MOU to their Agency. The goal, ultimately, is the development of a National Environmental Information System, which will be hosted by the Government of Saint Lucia.
The Minister for Sustainable Development, believes strongly, that the signing of the MOU is a step forward in the right direction as this will further promote sound, reliable, and accurate reporting on environmental information. The MOU signing is scheduled for 1:30 pm on February 28, at the Orchid Gardens, Union.
