Two men were killed in an accident along the Micoud Highway on Saturday.

Police said about 5:45 pm, a white SUV, registration number PJ 8811, and a red and black motorcycle, registration number unknown, collided with each other.

The SUV was being driven by 42-year-old Lea St. Claire of Malgretoute, Micoud, accompanied by 52-year-old Laurine Mathurin of La Pointe, Mon Repos.

The motorcycle was being driven by 23- year-old Alvin “Scam” Flavius of Anse Ger, Desruisseaux, who was accompanied by a pillion rider, 20-year-old Dillan “Ti Blow” Barthelomy of Ti Rocher, Micoud.

Both the motorcycle rider and his passenger sustained serious injuries and were transported to St. Jude’s hospital via ambulance. They were both treated and admitted but subsequently succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the SUV and her passenger escaped unhurt.

An investigation into the accident continues.

The Traffic Department has recorded 21 deaths from 16 accidents so far in 2013.

For the person who said that their body belongs to them (THAT’s ME ALRIGHT)you are terribly misinformed It belongs to God I’m not judging anyone but one day the righteous will judge the wicked but for now judgement is God’s we all are sinners that’s why Jesus had to pay the price for our sins so we who choose to obey him our sins are Gone but to those who continue to live in sin we will give an account to him believe it or not the eastern sky will open Jesus will be here to ask what you have done with the body he gave you choose God and live

Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

Many will wish they were judged in this lifetime so they would have a chance to straighten their lives up. Better be judged now than by God. it will be WORSE!

My sympathies go out to the families of the young men; though from the comments below they seem to have been a bit troublesome but all God’s children. I know Lea personally and my heart goes out to her – this sort of thing can be quite traumatising and can leave a driver (particularly a female driver) very shaken and frightened. But Lea, God has indeed saved you and your friend and he has big plans for your life. So continue to pray and seek God’s face constantly he will see you through this.xxx

The wearing of protective gear wouldn’t have saved those guys in this wreck. Protective gear and slower speeds MIGHT have saved them. Protective gear and speeding, slim chance you will survive. No protective gear and speeding, no way in hell you will survive.

Dylan! Surprise? Nope! I saw it coming. Yours was a short life but long list of delinquent behavior – school truancy, petty theft, big time (and recent) robberies, being a mule, etc. You received lots of talking from very concerned citizens. All failed. Even the approach to your maternal grandmother and foster mother (rip to your foster mother…bless her soul)on your behalf failed.

Kindly when it becomes available to your sources publish the names of the deceased and injured. So many of the road fatalities are in Micoud or if not the individuals are from there. Education is best. Have ads with defensive driving as the theme during news breaks.

You wrote “so many of the road fatalities are in Micoud or if not the individuals are from there….” This statement is untrue and very prejudicial. The record of accidents occuring there over the years shows most of the accident happened on the highway, the victims reside elsewhere and not Micoudians.

Don’t judge based on still photos. If you don’t know based on being there or first hand witness accounts, you can NEVER know how an accident happened from a picture. So saying most are because of the driver of the car is very incorrect.

Well said. Instead of portioning blame, we should all see this and take extreme care on the roads…whether vehicle driver, motorcyclist, cyclist or pedestrian. Take it easy out there. We all want to get home safely.

Blame has to be portioned, cause these are not accidents these are collisions since someone is responsible or was driving in an unsafe or illegal manner. there must be blame as persons lost their lives and property was damaged.maybe when more people are brought to court for wrongful death and them things, maybe then we will be more careful on the road… it is also time for those who are increasing in age be honest with themselves and not drive in the night if their vision is impaired.

Well by looking at the picture the SUV is on the wrong side of the road so maybe he was turning across a junction and did not see the bike until too late. Most accidents between bikes and cars are at junctions and is the fault of the car driver.

absolutely incorrect. Where a vehicle ends up after an accident is no indication of what happened. As someone who has ridden motocycles for year, yes, drivers do tend to not see motocycles which is why anyone riding needs to be so incredible alert and careful. As do all drivers. The problem is most people on this island drive like mad idiots always rushing everywhere for no reason! The bus drivers are the worst. Some of the most dangerous driving I have seen anywhere in the world. All for what? To get to the next stop 15 seconds ahead of someone else? It makes no sense. All the traffic fatalities are because drivers are out of control on this island and the police do nothing to enforce speed control or punish reckless driving.

When driving, be it night or daytime, it has been proven it’s more difficult to see a smaller vehicle than a regular size vehicle. With that said, we have to drive defensively, at all times. Drive for yourself and for the fools who think the roads in St. Lucia are race tracks. I have been overtaken in or near corners by both motorcycles and vehicles being driven by young looking persons. That’s very unsafe, but people do it anyway. When the majority of young people get their licence, they think they own the road, they know how to drive better than anyone else. This is not the case.

Amen Johanne. Plenty disobedience and sin in this land especially sexual sin which satan applauds because it’s the only sin we commit against our own bodies. Our bodies which God said is the temple of the Holy spirit. So until we start living in OBEDIENCE to God’s commandments I am afraid there won’t be many changes. It will get worse.

Oh my, that’s me. Why feel offended? The body was given to us by God like every other thing. When invigorating words have been spoken accept it cause it will make u a better person. Forget the hypocrites just make sure you are not one. Also the is a difference between judging and speaking against what is sinful. Let us look out for one another, no one is perfect so we will all need a little word of encouragement. If we change our mentality and not be so defensive we will have a better St.Lucia.

You are so correct “that is me alright”…why does judge righteously jump on sexual sin? All sin is sin..stealing, bearing false witness against our neighbors, coveting your neighbors wife, adultery etc., so what you jumping on sexual sin for…experience has shown that most of you who are quick to judge are the very ones who are guilty of such…so why don’t you keep quiet with your nonsense…sheesh!

When we will be able to tell our people put down the weapons We need to talk to our youths so they can hear us n stop playing the blame game. N most of all it take a witch to no a witch. What is going on in st.lucia. Every week someone is either killed or seriously injured on a motocycle accident. People need to realize then when on the roads they need to be more cautious. We are in charge of our lifes and if we dont take necessary precautions to protect ourselfs, we will just be falling apart like grains. I urge lucians to not only think of the sweetness of the moment but the consequences which may occur as a result to what we do. I pray god for these families and the injured.
