First off chastanet had dual citizenship he was an American citizen, if I remember correctly he was born in Puerto Rico, how does that make him Lucian?? he renounced his American citizenship either before he took over the tourism ministry or before the last elections, because after all who wants to be an American citizen when they can be prime minister of saint lucia, as for all his leadership qualities? I honestly don't see the qualities people speak of, unless you class spending money uselessly a leadership quality, smh, during chastanets tenure at the tourism ministry this man's telephone bills amounted to $48,000.00 for one(1) month, I mean come on are you serious??, not to mention "boxing in paradise, a cool couple million spent so lucians can go to beasejour and use the national word, and his hiring of dr hepple to rebrand st.lucia at a wage higer than the then prime minister who was an elected official and he wasn't.......excellent track record if you ask me smh

King is a very nice man who simply did not know when to put his boot up somebody's *ss when he/she deserved it. He allowed the wayward & criminal elements to drag the party to its knees. Had King tossed his trash years ago, I doubt he would have suffered loss of leadership. No doubt, the trash elements are going to undermine the party because they will not have the free reign that they had grown to love. Somewhere in the near future, the UWP will be due for another cleansing...that is when they will be tossing their trash for good. I expect to see another party before the end of next year. Probably called Crooks Ran Amok Party (CRAP)

The black bigots are loose. The questions they should be asking are (a)Is the guy qualified to lead the country?(b)Can he execute change to bring about meaningful progress? This is what really matters. The color of the man's nose or skin does not mean jack in the grand scheme of things. In the 70's both Manley and Seaga were elected in Jamaica...both non black persons. I do not believe the elder Chastanet wants the St. Lucian treasury because he has sufficient acumen...as his record shows. All I am hearing from some of the idiots is about the guy's skin color. To the bigots, would you vote for a St.Lucian of Indian ancestry? Would you vote for someone in a wheelchair? Local politics was not made for one race. It is for EVERY St. Lucian of every religion, race, color, creed, gender, national origin. The bigots sound like reverse, transplanted Republicans.

Tard. Spanish is not an official language of the US and not spoken by the majority of the people in the country. Totally far from it. The US is also a melting pot. St. Lucia is not. Its not about the colour of the guy's skin. Its about the disconnect with the common man. This guy is part of the 1%. He does not know what it is like to go hungry, not have a pair of shoes, or have clothes with holes in it. He cannot relate to the economic uncertainty and challenges the vast majority of St. Lucians have and will continue to face. He is also a failure at business propped up by daddy. Do you want this sort of guy ruining your country. Its not about skin colour people.

WOW!!!! If you are 'fair skinned' and have an American accent, anything can happen in good ole 'fair' Helen. This is the ABSOLUTE worst political which has happened to SL in my day...Lucians should really take a look at how slave minded they are - they love a 'bell coolair' and they are going pay dearly for this. Remember PIP had dan say that already and even then, the whole of Lucia were calling him racist. FROM NOW ON, TAKE WHAT THE F..K YOU ALL GET.

I live in a country where everything is polarized. I have always boasted to people, that where I am from (St.Lucia) we done see color, only people, however, after reading some of the above comments I am ashamed.

I have no problem if you want to criticize Chastanet on his inability to lead but when you criticize him because of the color of his skin it is shameful.

Nelson Mandela "No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite"

    Please change your mindset.

I am surprised to read that it is more important to have black skin that the necessary brains to lead a country. With racist thinking like that, your country will never make progress. It is high time you all wanted the change required so that Saint Lucia and life for Saint Lucians improves - and then you'll have less to complain about. Start with choosing a leader by what he can offer the people and not what his accent or skin colour is or isn't!

Chastanet has neither black skin nor brains. Remember you folks asked for better days. You got it. Now you ask for this. Live with the consequences. I plan to high tale it out of this sinking ship. Call me unpatriotic but sadly there are too many sad people in this country who can't tell the arse from the face.

Obama was selected to do the white man's dirty work. This is nothing to base your comment.

If person are so upset with Mr Chastnet and his family achievements why don't you stop shopping at super J, persons sit around doing nothing to improve the business sector in this country but complain when other try to make positive changes, CFL is one of the highest private sector employers in the country, and can anyone recall what shopping was like before super j, yes everything was "ti boutique". On the issue of his colour i see nothing wrong with his complexion because it doesn't surmount to what the gentle has to offer. I am a very strong SLP supporter but i will not go down on an individual based on the colour of his skin and the way he talks, however i will look at his past records while he held the post of the islands tourism minister, and all the wild spending he did when compared to that of our current minister with responsibility for tourism.

He has proven to be lacking 'gonards' He should have utilized authority when he was head to 'deal with' certain issues within the party and also try to distance himself for the alleged wrong-doings as made by the findings of the inquiry into the party's fiduciary affairs. If these allegations were proven true.....how or what do you think he would handle/deal with it!

Some of you Lucians are to small minded, the power is in your hands, use it. Allen is a committed individual like King, the difference is Steve did not have the guts to rid the party of the persons that cause him to loose the elections and he knows that. If Steve was not too passive he would be our leader for the future, I have to congratulate him on his humility yesterday. I know if he and Allen can work together SLP look out. The economic growth and development in Singapore was started some 200 years ago by the English, and the island strategic location served it well as a booming trade hub. St Lucia on the other hand has had neither or, and would need millions if not billions in direct foreign investment to get to that level. As for UWP and king I really do think King has what it takes to be a good prime minister, he just needs to be able to make some stuff choices as it relates to the members of his party. I cant wait to see what will happen come election 2016, I really don't see UWP winning an election in a hurry
