PRESS RELEASE: The Saint Lucia Labour Party Women’s Organization marks the observance of another Mother’s Day, a very special occasion of the year where the world over, women are celebrated for their selfless giving, nurturing and support of children and families.

Motherhood in the 21st Century is ever more challenging as mothers contend with raising children amidst technological distractions and the corrupting influences in the environment.  The SLPWO recognizes these challenges and therefore call on mothers to be the example they want for their children, do things to build strong relationships with their children, create the environment for their children to have confidence in them leading to willingness for children to accept the values of the parents.

The SLPWO believes that a majority of mothers do their best, as such we encourage other partners in the society in particular policy makers to join with mothers to save the nation’s youth particularly this generation of young men.

The SLPWO calls on government to commit to supporting youth initiatives, promote an environment of partnership with the youth through the National Youth Council, invest in assisting young mothers through the roving care givers programme and broadening opportunities for academic pursuits through a commitment to the success of Universal Secondary School Education.

The SLPWO for its part has communicated to the Saint Lucia Labour Party, strong policy positions which should form the party’s priority in an SLP Government, to support struggling families in their efforts to break free of poverty and its attendant ills.

Happy Mother’s Day to all.
