NEW YORK—Organizers of the New York based Project Education are close to reaching their fundraising goals, though more help is needed as time runs out. For the final push, they are looking to Saint Lucians and well-wishers in the Diaspora to help make this fundraising effort a success.
Founded earlier this year by Jeremiah Hyacinth, Project Education gives overseas-based Saint Lucians a unique opportunity to donate school bags and supplies to less fortunate children in Saint Lucia. Already, almost two hundred school bags filled with school supplies have been collected through this initiative.
“We are on the verge of meeting our goal,” said Hyacinth. “With the continued generosity of our donors, the scope of our project and our ability to make a lasting impression on the lives of children will be that much greater.”
To complete this summer’s campaign, organizers are offering Saint Lucians in the tri-state area an additional opportunity to contribute. On Sunday, August 1, organizers will host a fundraiser at 719 Remsen Avenue in Brooklyn, New York from 5pm-midnight. Free food will be served to show thanks and appreciation.
Indeed, Project Education organizers thank the many donors who have already contributed and encourage every Saint Lucian, particularly those residing overseas, to collaborate with us on this worthy cause. It is a clear investment in the future of our country.
“We can change lives,” said Hyacinth. “Providing a child with basic tools at the start of the school year is one of many ways Saint Lucians both at home and abroad can change the life of a child for the better.”
At the end of this year’s campaign, on August 31, the collected school bags and supplies will be delivered to a local non-profit organization for immediate distribution in Saint Lucia, just in time for the new school year.
“Looking ahead to next year’s campaign,” said Hyacinth, “we will aim higher. Together, I know we can help many more of the children of Saint Lucia, ensuring the next generation of citizens is well-prepared to meet the unique challenges of the 21st century.”
