St. Lucia News Online has been reliably informed that a new attorney general, will be appointed.

A reliable source has confirmed that Rudolph “Doddy” Francis was approached for the post, which he accepted, and his appointment will take effect within the next few days.

However Government Press Secretary Darnley Lebourne has dispelled that claim stating that the attorney general remains in his post.

“What I can say as we speak now is that the attorney general continues to hold his position, as appointed by the Prime Minister,” Lebourne said.

He added that it is the prime minister’s jurisdiction with respect to any alterations regarding low Ministers who act in their positions.

“We don’t know that any change has been effected with regards to the position to the attorney general and if or when such a determination is made, it will come from the only person who can do so which is the Prime Minister of St. Lucia,” Lebourne said.

Since his appointment, just after the 2006 elections the attorney general has come under fire and verbal attacks by the Opposition and various members of the public.

There have been several calls for his resignation, with some dismissing his performance as poor. The AG has not responded to any of those claims or attacks.
