Statement:
The Political Leader of the LPM, Mr. Therold Prudent, says that an incident which originated in St. Lucia last week has reinforced his
Party’s greatest fears, and has confirmed beyond the shadow of a doubt, that St Lucians hopes and aspirations to achieve respectful and good
governance in our homeland come the next general election is under relentless siege.
“St. Lucians may not be fully aware of the grave situation under which we live right now,” the Political Leader lamented, ‘but, they must be
forewarned that sinister forces and elements within our government, steeped in political mischief and vindictiveness, have entirely succeeded in wresting power away from those who were legally and legitimately entrusted with it.”
“It is sad and unfortunate that the government of the day is experiencing such a catastrophic breakdown in the legitimate exercise of its authority, such that many St. Lucians have yet to appreciate, analyze, and fully understand what they are seeing.”
” In this new illegitimate dispensation of power and authority, those who have sworn to uphold the laws of the country and protect its citizens and people, are capitulating weak-kneed and subserviently to the sinister elements in government, who do not hold the public trust as sacred, the public’s confidence as important, or the public interest as paramount.”
St. Lucians must hastily wake up to the reality of this evil which we have allowed to grow and menace our society, unchecked and unbridled,in these last few years.
“We must decide whether we want to continue along the path that allows those in office to convert government institutions into personal fiefdoms and use them as tools to settle scores with detractors, or as weapons to victimize implacably, hardworking and honest St. Lucians who they perceive as enemies.”
“If honest, effective and good governance represents a worthy and indispensable national goal for all St Lucians, regardless of their political persuasion, then victimization, as a way of settling scores with those who in the exercise of their freedom of speech, criticize any member of government, must be unequivocally rejected nationwide.
Further, we must cast such political mischief upon the historical scrapheap of things not desirable or tolerated in any decent and democratic society.”
