A young man of Babonneau who was charged with murder walked away a free man after a 1 -man, 11-woman jury returned a Not Guilty verdict, following a few hours of deliberation.
The young man who was 19 years old at the time of the incident was accused of killing Jason Omar Price of the same community on 1st November, 2008.
Prosecutor Seryozha Cenac represented the crown while Attorney-at-Law Sean Innocent, assisted by Donna Jacobie, appeared on behalf of the defendant.
According to information received by the court, the two were involved in a previous dispute, reportedly over a chain prior to the incident.
They met again during a social activity in the community during which an argument ensued.
The victim is said to have been holding what was described as a “fake gun” at one point.
During the heated exchange, the defendant is said to have slashed Price across the neck which resulted in his death.
Innocent used the element of self-defense to defend his client.
This is one in many murder trials the prosecution has lost in these criminal assizes.
