Gros Islet 25th anniversary celebrations kick off

The redevelopment of the Gros Islet waterfront and an awards ceremony recognizing those who have contributed significantly to the town, will be two significant activities among others, to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of its elevation to township.

This was announced by Parliamentary Representative of Gros Islet, Lenard ‘Spider’ Montoute during the launching of the anniversary activities on Tuesday evening. He said both residents and persons from Gros Islet living abroad will be awarded for their contributions.

Other activities earmarked for the occasion include pageants, an exhibition, sporting and entertainment events.

Montoute said discussions are being held with the National Conservation Authority to develop a beach park at the southern end of Pigeon Point.

He could not specify the budget for the project, since the committee is currently finalizing the plans.

Activities are expected to take place in neighbouring communities, as an effort to expand the celebrations.
