Vieux Fort Man acquitted of murder

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

A young man of Vieux Fort, who was charged with murder is now free.

Kurtis Clovis, walked out of the High Court in tears on Tuesday, as he was acquitted for the offense.

He was accused of killing his cousin, 25-year-old Richard Daniel of the same community.

The incident occurred on October 11th, 2008 at Pierrot, Vieux Fort between 11:15 pm and 12:30 am, in the vicinity of the Roman Catholic Church.

Attorney-at-Law Dassaraen Green, appeared on behalf of  the accused in this matter, while Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, Robert Innocent represented the crown.

According to Mr. Greene, it all began at a bar where the defendant and Daniel, were drinking with friends.

He said his client, who was 26 years at the time, simply told Daniel, do not throw his drink on the counter.

Daniel responded by insulting and threatening him.

He (Daniel)  then pelted pieces of blocks after him. An altercation ensued, during which Clovis punched Daniel about his body. One of those punches was fatal.

During the trial Pathologist Stephen King, stated that the cause of death was respiratory failure as a result to obstruction due to a fracture to the thyroid cartilage or voice box.

Defense Attorney Green was able to convince the 8-woman, 4-man jury that his client acted in self-defense.

It took just about one hour to return the Not Guilty verdict.

LPM of St Lucia gears up for elections

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

The Political Leader of the Lucian Peoples Movement, says the Party is gearing up for the 2011 general elections and moving into the next stage of preparedness with the selection of candidates to contest the seventeen constituencies around the island.

Mr. Prudent calls on all St Lucians of good will, at home and abroad,  who are tired of the tribal nature of St Lucia’s politics, and who have the courage to offer St. Lucians a decent alternative in 2011,  to come forward now and offer themselves as candidates and/or volunteers for the LPM.

The Political Leader says that unlike other party or parties in St. Lucia where bureaucratic maneuvers, secrecy, blatant exclusion, personal infighting, and academic credentials  are normative practices and mandatory prerequisites in the selection process,  the LPM wants  to let the public know that its selection process will be an open and public affair based on the simple principles of honesty, fairness  and integrity.

The Political Leader says that persons wishing  to offer themselves as LPM candidates need not worry about  past political affiliation or socio economic background.   The minimum pre-requisites the LPM requires are good character, a commitment to public service and to the development of St Lucia and a willingness to put country ahead of selfish and narrow partisan interest.

Mr. Prudent says that the LPM would like to extend a special invitation to the youth of St. Lucia to come forward and seize this historic opportunity to become one of the future leaders of this country and to ensure that the next government has the right balance of youth and experience, and is truly representative of a cross section of the St Lucian society.

Mr. Prudent says that St Lucians should not allow this opportunity to become part of the movement that will charter the course of change in  St Lucia’s political future to pass them by.

“Now more than ever” he says, “all St. Lucians can and should be a part of the solution to the problems that afflict and affect our society.  St. Lucians ought not to sit on the sidelines and gaze in wonder and disbelief as the current crop of politicians tear each other and the country apart.”

We have to address the current problems that currently affect us, he says.  “We must address the problems of high unemployment, crime, juvenile delinquency, teenage pregnancies, drug addiction and  inadequate job training that currently affect us,” Mr. Prudent laments.

The Political Leader, says that the LPM will converge on the town of Gros Islet in August, 2010, to officially launch the Lucian People’s Movement.

NWU teams up with other unions in LIAT regional meeting

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

The National Workers Union (NWU) of St Lucia will be among several other trade unions throughout the region representing LIAT workers, when they meet with the airline company, in Antigua on Thursday July 1st, 2010.

The unions will discuss at length a proposal by LIAT Management to close down its town offices in the relevant countries.

According to a press release from the NWU, the trade union has been informed that the Kingstown office in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines “will not be touched”.  That office is being referred to as ‘unique and carries political influence’.

Carl Pilgrim and George Goddard Jr, officials from the NWU will represent the LIAT workers in Saint Lucia.

NWU’s President General Tyrone Maynard says it is a possibility that LIAT could review its position.

He added that the NWU alone doesn’t have all the answer but collectively they could arrive at a consensus that all is comfortable with.

THE NWU had made it clear at a preliminary meeting with the LIAT Management that it will not accept the Castries office closure.

According to statistics provided by the NWU, the Castries office brings to LIAT millions of dollars annually.

“The LIAT office brought in revenue up to 5 million in 2007, another 5 million in 2007 and up to March 2010, have made 1.7 million dollars,” Maynard previously stated.

The NWU is scheduled to hold a general meeting with LIAT workers to chart the way forward.

Government shares the grief of the cultural community in the untimely death of Athanatius Laborde

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

The Government of Saint Lucia joins the local cultural community in the expression of grief and shock at the recent untimely death of local cultural activist Athanasius Laborde. Mr. Laborde’s sudden death has robbed Saint Lucia of a committed and outstanding Artiste. As a Master Drummer, Mr. Laborde was able to use his special skills to impart and nurture the art of drumming to many.

His outstanding drumming skills contributed to the formation and development of many cultural/entertainment entities in areas such as dance, drama, conventional musical, drumming, etc. His involvement over the years brought him into association with rich and diverse experiences through groups and events such as Petite Ste Lisi Dance Troupe, Lapo Kabwit Drumming Group, Saint Lucia Jazz and Calypso.

Mr. Laborde has represented Saint Lucia at various regional and international cultural events including Carifesta, the World Drumming Festival and Expo 86. Government is saddened at the lost of this resourceful individual in the area of drumming. Mr. Laborde through his passionate and persistent devotion to the art of drumming has helped to keep alive drumming as an expression of our African Heritage.

Government extends sympathy with the Saint Lucian cultural community, the family and friends of the late Athanatius Laborde. We have no doubt that the contributions made by Mr. Laborde will live on as a legacy in the history the island’s cultural development.

My boyfriend is broke

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Dear Bella: I am 19 and my current boyfriend is 20. I really like him, he is good at making me laugh, and I know that he can’t live without me. He gives me all the attention that I want. The only problem is that he doesn’t have any money!

He lives with his mom in a small house. He shares his room with two other brothers so I don’t even bother to go there. Sometimes I want things, to do my hair, a nice phone, clothes and shoes, credit on my phone, and I know it’s a waste of time to ask him.

Recently, this older man in the community has started making moves on me. He drives a nice car and owns a huge house. People say that he’s involved in selling drugs. He tells me he can give me anything I need and even offered me a BlackBerry.

I’m not a gold-digger but I have needs. I’m thinking of leaving my boyfriend to be with the man. Or to be with the man and still have sex with my boyfriend secretly. Which one do you think is better?

Dear Miss,

Neither of your suggestions is better nor do they give credit to what women these days are trying to achieve which is independence. First of all you can try getting a job, and also recommending to your boyfriend that he should start filing his job applications. For behind every great man is a woman.  I have heard of guys who have no ambition at all, and prefer getting that quick money and feeding off their parents all their adult lives, but it’s even worse to know of a woman who lacks ambition and still wants the finest things in life.

You didn’t mention whether you or your boyfriend is attending college, but the way it sounds I doubt it. I hope though that you at least have a high school diploma, and if you don’t maybe you and your boyfriend can partner to start a small business- do something to sustain yourselves. I’m also questioning whether you really love your boyfriend, because of the outrageous thoughts about getting with the older man. By all means if you want to get a sugar daddy you can, but don’t say Bella advised you to. Meanwhile, start typing up those job applications.

Bella.

Health Talk: When not to exercise

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Exercise carries great benefits for the body, but it’s not always a good idea. Some aches and pains can make working out a definite no-no. Knowing when to work out or when to wait can be troublesome.

You need to listen to your body and cues it gives you and decide if exercise is right at that time. Should you just do it, or call in sick to the gym? Here are some pointers.

YOU’VE GOT A FEVER

Stay home and rest. A fever says your immune system is battling an infection, and doesn’t need the stress from exercise on top of that. If you exercise anyway, be alert for overheating and dehydration, since body fluids are lost when you have a fever. You probably won’t get a great workout, since a fever increases your resting heart rate, leading to a less effective workout.

YOU’VE GOT A COLD

The cold can make you miserable, but doesn’t rule out exercise of moderate intensity. If you go to the gym when you have a cold, use hand sanitizer and wipe off any surfaces you touch to avoid contaminating your gym buddies. The bottom line: It’s understandable if you choose to take it easy, but exercising with a cold doesn’t make you sicker.

YOU’VE GOT THE FLU

Relax at home and skip the gym until you recover. The flu brings a fever, so heed the same fever rules outlined above.

YOU HAD A RECENT ASHMA FLARE-UP

If the flare-up was due to a respiratory infection, drop exercise for a few days and see doc if symptoms persist. If doc has said exercise is safe for you and your asthma is well-controlled, working out may be o.k. But start slowly and warm up for 10 minutes. If you have exercise-induced asthma, low-to-moderate intensity, intermitted exercise or swimming may be best. If you’re working out, stop if you can’t catch your breath or feel tired and weak. Always have a treatment plan in place, that is take along your inhaler or use it before exercising.

YOU RECENTLY HAD A CONCUSSION

Even if you feel o.k., don’t even think of sports or exercise until doc says it’s safe. A concussion is traumatic injury to the brain, which needs time to heal properly. If another head injury occurs from exercise before the concussion has healed, the brain may swell, with catastrophic results.

YOUR OLD SPORTS INJURY IS BOTHERING YOU

Skip workout and see doc. This is usually a bad sign, especially if you have pain during activity. Sudden pain requires immediate medical help.

YOU FELT A SHARP PAIN THE LAST TIME YOU WORKED OUT

Don’t workout until you see doctor to rule out an injury. If you exercise anyway, an injury may be made worse. Although it’s expected to feel soreness after you work out, it is never o.k. to feel pain.

YOUR BACK HURTS

Take it easy for a few days and see if your back feels better. Pay attention to what worsens or eases the pain. If bending or twisting bothers you, avoid these movements to promote healing. If your pain continues or interferes with your daily activities see your doctor.

YOU DIDN’T SLEEP LAST NIGHT AND NOW YOU’RE TOO TIRED TO EXERCISE

Get up and get moving. A morning workout may be just what you need after a restless night to boost your energy level and get you ready for the day. But if you’re always fatigued – not jut a bit tired, but to the point of not being able to function – forget workout and see doc. Extreme or persistent fatigue can be a sign of illness.

YOUR MUSCLES ARE SORE

You can do light-intensity workouts, such as walking, instead of running. You can even skip the workout and rest, if the soreness is too severe. And if your muscles are very sore because you overdid it the last workout, be sure to make your workouts more reasonable.

YOU’RE PREGNANT

Ask your doctor about a safe exercise program. Yoga, swimming, walking and other low-input and moderate-intensity exercise can be very beneficial during pregnancy. Be sure to stay hydrated, take breaks, and avoid getting overheated. Don’t do exercises to strain your back and belly. Contact sports, bicycling, horseback riding and such are off-limits, because of risks of falls and abdominal injury.

IT’S BEEN A ROUGH WEEK AND YOU’RE WIPED OUT

Exercise may help reduce your stress and boost your energy. So put on your gym clothes and start a moderate workout. After 10 or 15 minutes, most likely you’ll feel fine and want to continue.

DON’T RUSH YOUR COMEBACK

Don’t jump right back into your regular exercise after being out for an illness or injury. It takes a lot of energy to maintain muscle strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness – and little time to lose it.

Return to exercise slowly and carefully.

There’s a bit more on this topic, but I’ve probably taken up too much space already.

Drop a question through DNO if you like. See you next week.

Regional integration discussed at CSME seminar

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

The issue of Regional Integration comes to the fore as a two-day consultation on the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) get underway today.

Five CARICOM member states including St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad are participating countries.

Labour economist on the CARICOM consultation, Vela Samuel states the overall objective of the exercise.

“The whole objective of this consultation is to deepen knowledge of the whole issue of regional integration, in particular the CSME; the purpose really is to promote buying among the labour stakeholders and stimulate and encourage participation, in the CSME by investigating the level of knowledge, awareness and use of the CSME regime which basically focus on movement of people, good, services, capital and the rise of establishment,” Samuel said.

Right Angle Imaging Inc. (RAI) has been contracted by the CARICOM Secretariat (CSME Unit) to undertake the study on the level of awareness of the provisions of CSME amongst labour stakeholders within select member states.

Time to explain, Chastanet

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

The Saint Lucia Labour Party has noted with keen interest the story on the June 08 issue of Voice Of Saint Lucia, entitled, “The Black Bay Lands Issue”. The story followed disclosures by the Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, at a public meeting on the Market Steps, that the Government of Saint Lucia stood to lose over 228 acres of land following the collapse of the bank which financed the commencement of the Ritz Carlton project in Black Bay. It now turns out that some 500 acres of land were put up as security. According to the Voice newspaper, “The land the minister reiterated is not a risk.”

The Saint Lucia Labour Party calls on Senator Chastanet to explain why the lands are not at risk when the bank which granted the loan to the developers has collapsed and the receivers of the bank are seeking to realize their security in the lands mortgaged to the bank.

The fact of the matter is that neither the National Development Corporation nor the Government of Saint Lucia have any direct interest in the lands anymore. All the Government has is a small proportion of shares in the company which owns the lands.

The Labour Party made it clear that it was the loan to the Ritz Carlton Group that was in trouble, not the project, even though the project could not move forward unless and until the issue of the loan from the collapsed bank was resolved. The collapse of the bank has put the financing of the project in serious trouble. The developers are now unable to finance the development through pre-sales.

The Government of Saint Lucia and by extension the people of Saint Lucia, are in danger of losing over 500 acres of land without receiving a cent for it. The lands at risk include several hundreds of acres of the Queen’s Chain which were leased to the developers.

The Saint Lucia Labour Party calls on Senator Chastanet to indicate whether the Hotel Operator, Ritz Carlton, is threatening to pull out or has pulled out of the project. Further, since Minister Chastanet says that the lands are not at risk, the Saint Lucia Labour Party invites him to tell the people of Saint Lucia how he intends to save the 500 acres of land which was put up as security for the project.

The Saint Lucia Labour Party believes that the people of Saint Lucia deserve a full explanation from Senator Chastanet and on this occasion, he must try his utmost to tell the truth.

LIAT and LIALPA meet to address outstanding issues

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, June 28, 2010 – Representatives of LIAT’s management and the Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association (LIALPA) met on Monday 28th June 2010 at LIAT’s headquarters in Antigua to discuss issues relating to the recent industrial action by LIALPA.

The meeting was conducted in a cordial atmosphere with LIALPA’s team led by Captain Patterson Thompson, Secretary of LIALPA, while LIAT’s team was led by Mr. Brian Challenger, Acting CEO.  The LIAT Acting CEO welcomed the LIALPA delegation and it was agreed that the meeting would serve as a forum for update and exchange of positions on the four items which had been identified by LIALPA in its recent press releases.

The meeting reached agreement on the issue relating to statutory deductions for two LIAT pilots, with mechanisms agreed for facilitating a prompt and transparent settlement, while various understandings for resolving differences on the LIAT Pension Fund were also achieved.

On the matter of retroactive payments for Holiday Pay both sides reiterated their earlier positions on this issue. LIAT indicated its intention that this matter be pursued through the country’s industrial relations resolution mechanism in order to arrive at an independent judicial decision.  The LIALPA delegation indicated its interest in a speedy resolution of this matter and indicated that this issue remained a “contentious” matter for the pilot body.

In relation to LIALPA’s stated concern with the LIAT-LIALPA arbitration process, the meeting noted the date for release of the report as indicated by the Chairman of the Arbitration Panel. LIAT’s management reiterated its continuing commitment to the Arbitration process earlier agreed on by both parties.

The meeting also noted recent correspondence exchanged between LIAT and LIALPA with both parties seeking clarification on the issues raised. LIAT sought a clear indication from LIALPA on whether it intended to proceed with industrial action as indicated in its Notice of 25th June. It was indicated that LIALPA would reply following consultations with its Chairman.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of courtesies.

I have a crush on a teacher

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Dear Bella: I’m a young lady attending high school at one of the top schools in town. I have a boyfriend, but he’s a bit too immature for me sometimes. There is this young male teacher who works at my school who is always watching me. He is only a few years older than I am. At first I just ignored it as nothing; although I was curious and felt special as well that he liked me out of all the other girls at school, then recently he told a friend of mine who he knows to ‘hook us up.’

What should I do Bella? Suddenly my boyfriend doesn’t seem important as I know this teacher is such an upgrade. He has the body of a man, is smart and funny. I don’t know if I can turn down such an opportunity. Age is just a number right?

Dear school girl,

While it might seem like this love interest is just a few years older, he is still your teacher. So my best advice to you is: DO NOT GO DOWN THAT ROUTE. You realize too that you may not be the only female student this teacher has an eye for, and you will be putting your reputation on the line if you hook up with him.

First of all do you know how many male teachers who have lost their jobs over female students? Stay far away from this teacher and if your current boyfriend is too immature and you don’t feel anything strongly for him then sack him. But don’t play cat and mouse with this teacher, because that’s what it will seem like; you are going to be hiding to meet each other, sneaking out from your home at nights and you won’t be able to enjoy your time together in the open. Your teacher knows it’s wrong and risky to date a student. Be the wise one and avoid him.

Bella.

Regional Agricultural Policy Network launches strategic planning workshop

Monday, June 28th, 2010

CCAP participants

Trinidad, June 28, 2010.  In 2003, stakeholders within the agricultural sector in the Caribbean, including representatives from the CARICOM Secretariat, agreed on the need for collaboration and participation in the development of a network that would strengthen linkages at the national and regional levels and contribute to cost effective agricultural policy decision-making.  This emerged as the vision of the Caribbean Regional Agricultural Policy Network (CaRAPN), which was established in 2003 with external resources from the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) and managed and supported by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

The CaRAPN has developed over the years as an open community for all stakeholders in agriculture and rural development in the Caribbean to communicate, share ideas, experiences and information for the benefit of all.  Counting on the support and participation of individuals and institutions across the region, the network has succeeded in meeting some of its objectives towards contributing to the policy analysis and dialogue for collective regional action, through information dissemination and exchange, communication, advocacy and capacity building.

As it stands now in 2010, the challenge of a lack of information and inadequate timely access to this information, which is crucial for policy formulation, decision-making and effective implementation, still exists within the agricultural community in the Caribbean. Given that in 2010 there is now a marked increase in the number of players and projects in the agriculture community – external funds, government projects, private sector, NGOS, quasi-government associations, and good-intentioned philanthropists – as well as increased demands on and expectations of improved sectoral performance, the need to address this challenge is even more urgent.

The CaRAPN’s Medium Term Strategic Planning Workshop, which will be held in Port of Spain, Trinidad from July 27-29, 2010, targets persons interested in moving the process forward, specifically those with the ability to communicate information that needs to be shared for development. It aims to establish the need for a stronger common networking platform to support regional agriculture in its new and evolving contexts. Additionally, the workshop seeks to redefine the vision, mission and strategic objectives of the CaRAPN in the medium term, while developing a modus operandi for collaboration among key strategic partners piloting the common information platform.

As a precursor to the workshop an online electronic survey was launched, which seeks to obtain opinions about agricultural policy networking.  This tool provides an open invitation to anyone who can participate in the CaRAPN as an equal partner and contribute meaning fully to communication flows in agriculture.  The survey can be found on the network’s website www.carapn.net

“A common consensus among all stakeholders in the agricultural sector in the Caribbean is key to going forward,” indicated Ms. Diane Francis, Regional Specialist in Policy and Trade Negotiations, IICA and coordinator of the IICA-CTA CaRAPN project.

Initial evaluations of the network have indicated that there are more strengths and opportunities than weaknesses and threats to move CaRAPN to a level of full ownership and participation.  The CaRAPN’s strategic planning workshop is therefore an important step in the right direction.

Does size matter?

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Dear Bella: This is a very awkward thing to talk about! I would say that I am a reasonably sexually experienced man, having had several girlfriends in the past. I would like to think that I took care of them in that department as well. But now I have found myself in a shaky position.

I am thinking of getting engaged to my current girlfriend. She is very loving and loyal to me and I am getting to an age where I feel like I need to settle down. The problem is that I don’t think I am big enough to satisfy her. When I met her she already had two children, one when she was only 16. She told me that she used to live a wild life when she was younger.

I asked her how many men she had slept with she said about 10 but I think she probably lied about the true number. Bella none of this really matters to me because she has changed and no one can change their past. But when we have sex I can see that I am not able to truly satisfy her. I am afraid that if we get married she will eventually cheat with a man who is more endowed.

I’m just confused right now.

Dear confused man,

Have you asked your girlfriend how concerned she is about the issue? Sometimes it may just be your insecure consciousness making you believe that you are not big enough for her. Nowadays, there are many steps offered for men who feel that they are too small. For one there are surgical procedures done to enlarge your size. However, if you find this is too risky and do not want to attempt this you can also consider the non-surgical methods. Where pharmaceuticals are concerned, I understand that there are no pills, creams, powders, or drops that will make a penis grow larger or longer. The emails offering these are scams and the advertisements are lies.

If you think these options are too much, it is encouraging to know too that there are also procedures women in your girlfriend’s situation can try like certain creams specifically  Harmony Cream, V Cream and others which can be found over the internet. She can also do various exercises which can help tighten her walls. Discuss it with her and I’m sure both of you can come to a solution. Good luck!

Bella.

ALIVE WORD: It’s clean up time

Monday, June 28th, 2010

The Richardsons

“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

–Psalm 51:7-10

God is dealing seriously with matters of the heart and He is calling all of us to do an extensive housecleaning. The cleaning for this hour is not outward cleaning; this cleaning is a cleaning of our hearts. Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary states that “The heart is the chief organ of physical life, and it occupies the most important place in the human spirit. The heart represents the hidden man in us – the part of us that no one sees but God. The heart stands for man’s entire mental and moral activity, both the rational and the emotional elements.”

The heart is the most important part of our entire being. The condition of our heart dictates our entire life. Proverbs 4:23 states, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” God is calling us to deal with the issues and the matters of our hearts.

We can’t afford to have hearts that are defiled and be unrepentant about it. We can’t afford to allow sin to dwell in our hearts. It’s time for us to clean up. It’s time for us to really look inside ourselves and ask God to examine our hearts. When God examines us, He sees things that we ourselves don’t see. That’s why it’s important for us to daily ask God to examine us, be quick to repent and ask Him for forgiveness when He reveals things to us that aren’t pleasing to Him.

Some of us have so many unresolved issues in our hearts that we are unable to really experience the mighty power of God in our lives. We may look good on the outside in the eyes of man but if our heart isn’t right with God, all our works are as filthy rags. God requires that we allow Him to create clean hearts in us.

Do not allow the enemy to lure you into the trap of jealousy, envy, lust, bitterness, fornication, adultery, deceit, gossip, rebellion, pride, an unforgiving spirit, or any other sin of the flesh. If these sins are resident in your heart and you do not repent, they will destroy you. If God reveals sin in your life and you refuse to repent, He will not hear your prayers. “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” (Psalm 66:18). The grudge you’re holding against a person who’s hurt you is not worth losing your soul in hell. How’s your attitude toward your family, friends, enemies, coworkers?

God is calling us today to a place of holiness and purity. Psalm 24:3-5 sates, “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.”

None of us should ever get to a place where we think we are so right with God that we do not have to have a heart check. The more we ask God to search us and the closer we get to the light (Jesus Christ), the more we will see what needs to be stripped from our lives. We must decrease so that Jesus Christ will increase in us.

Today, if you really want to grow in the Lord, if you really want to experience the mighty power of God in your life, begin by allowing God to clean your heart. You cannot afford to be left out of this mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It‘s time to clean up!

Prayer:  Dear God in the name of Jesus Christ, we thank you today that we can come boldly to Your throne.  We ask You to search our hearts, see if there is any wicked way in us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  Lord we desire to live for You and to be who You have called us to be.  Help us Lord to have clean hearts and right spirits.  Help us to walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh; in Jesus name, amen.

Signs your woman is being influenced by external forces

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Ever wondered why your woman is behaving a certain way? Asking for more money? Want her hair done more often than before? Wants a new cell phone? Wants to know why you’re not encouraging her?

Make a guess?

Obviously that’s because another man or woman singing gospel in her ears. If you know your woman very well, you will notice as soon as she changes – anything from her attitude to her way of dressing.

If your wife used to dress like an old woman, how come all of a sudden she dressing hot? She may not necessarily be trying to impress you. She is more than likely checking a man on the side who brings out the best in her. Or, she is simply trying to impress someone else to get their attention.

Problem is women become bored easily. And even if you’re a good man to her – giving her money, giving her good sex – but you’re not giving her the attention she needs, like going out often, romancing her, or staying home with the family, more than likely she will find a sugar man on Facebook or Hi5 to hook up with. Then Bingo, he hits her jackpot and she’s gone.

Every woman is easily influenced. Let none of them fool you. Some just like to put on a good show, but become a woman whisperer and she is all yours. Women like attention, so they are very good at listening. They love to hear what they want they love to hear nice words, especially if you keep at it.

So telling a girl she would like fine in this and that, she should join this and that group, she would do better in this and that career, in no time, she will change, esp. if she believes it’s better for her. But you, as her man, can be singing the same tune into her ears for years, she wouldn’t listen. But most times the messenger in her ears just want to taste some of her fish meal. but women always think the grass is greener on the other side because there man has a fault.

So stop being naive when your woman make a sudden change. If your gut feeling tells you she is up to something, she is.

Long ago I used to date this girl, we became separated as in intimately. Then suddenly, she began dressing extra nice – wearing lip stick, makeup, new clothes, new shoes. So am like, what’s the reason for the makeover. Well, I asked her. She denied having or getting close to anyone else. But I know that was a big butt lie because we all know women like to lie and they lie well.

So all I did was sit back and observe more. Now this makeover trend continued. She was very, very careful with her dressing. She started going to the gym, and she joined a local club. Sooner than later she broke the news: “Nice Guy, I am seeing Raymond.”

All I said was: “Of course I know you was seeing Raymond. Is Raymond a member of the club you just joined?”

“Errrr… yea… how did you know that?” she asked.

See, if men take the time to know and understand women you will not be easily fooled. Women are as transparent as plastic, and little white or black lies will not stand up in your home court.

So next time you see your woman training for the Olympics, trying to run the 100m dash in under 12 seconds, give one of the world’s fastest men a call.

By the way, before I go, I wanna apologise for being late. I promise to be early next Friday.

Gems to showcase southern culture and history

Friday, June 25th, 2010

The history and culture of the South will come alive during a series of activities organized by Gems of Africa- a group of professionals hailing from the south of the island.

CEO of the group Wilson Jn Baptiste, who is based in the US says the southern belt of the island from Vieux Fort north to Soufriere will be converted into a touristic village from July 30th   to August 2nd.

He says these activities will serve not only as a marketing strategy to foster business overseas, but as a means of employment for residents of the south.

“The purpose of that weekend and that marketing strategy is to raise the awareness of southerners and visitors to the touristic asset of the south. We are going to host a series of cultural activities, and tours, to look at the historical background of the south. As a result of that weekend, we are going to create a marketing strategy whereby we can take these products into the market for consumption overseas and locals:

Jn. Baptiste also believes that this initiative will “create jobs for the unemployed and also to change the myth of the south that it is a place where entertainment and high quality touristic activities can take place”.

Looking for love in the wrong place?

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Dear Bella: I live in Antigua I got to know about this Dominican girl when she came to Antigua to visit. At that the time she was in Antigua she was shown around by a friend of mine. I saw pictures of her and she is beautiful. I have made aggressive advances to her, but have come up short.

I found out that she may involved with a guy studying overseas, but I know these long distance relationships never work. How can I approach her without turning her off?

Looking for help.

Dear Looking for Help,

It sounds like you are looking for advice on how to break up a relationship. If the young lady acts like she is not interested and is putting up a defense then she is faithful and committed to her boyfriend and you should just respect that. While it’s true that a lot more long distance relationships fail, rather than succeed you are not in a position to determine whether her relationship with her current relationship will decline, and if you have told her that as a way to get with her that is already a bad move.

Women do not like to be harassed by other men especially when she is giving the man a cold shoulder and he does not get the picture. I’m not saying that you can’t act friendly with her; however you may be turning her off with your aggressive advances. If it so happens that one day your predictions about her relationship not working by all means you can fight for her love. Yet if she’s not looking for a lover in you don’t try to push it.

Have a problem? Write to Dear Bella at slunewsonline@gmail.com. Dear Bella is published everyday. ALIVE WORD: Hope in the lord

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Ministers Wilbert and Jackie Richardson

“Why art thou cast down O my soul and why art thou disquieted within me, hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”  Psalms 42:5

The Vines Expository Bible Dictionary says hope is: Favourable and confident expectation.   In the Greek the word for hope is Elpis – means expectation of good. This original word can also carry the meaning joyful contended expectation of eternal salvation.

Life is filled with challenges – things confront all of us, some to a lesser or greater degree.  You may be thinking that what you are facing today is so great but believe me there are those who are having it so much harder than you, that they wish they could trade places with you.  Pain comes in different forms, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual.  Disappointment, discouragement, sickness, broken relationships, death, financial stress, family issues, marital challenges and the list goes on.

When faced with the challenges of life, what do you do and who do you turn to?  Some people turn to drugs, alcohol, illicit relationships, illegal activities and unscrupulous acts, while others rely on others to help them through the challenges.  However, there are times when the person or people who you may depend on whether by choice or inability cannot be there for you.  Many times people depend on other to do things that only God can do for them.  Sometimes all the wealth you may have or the possessions just cannot help with life’s challenges or give you the hope you seek.  What do you do?

Are you feeling hopeless or in despair?  Are you facing a situation that makes you wonder how in the world you are going to make it or wonder what you are going to do?  The only answer to the challenges of life is to hope and trust in God.  “I wait for you O Lord You will answer O Lord My God.”  Psalm 38:15 NIV  In other words I expect good from the Lord, therefore I will rest, rely, and depend on Him for He is my God.  God keeps His promises and He can be trusted.  Not only that, but His ear is always opened unto the cry of His children.  God has no voice mail or call waiting.  He is never too busy to listen or to help and He is always near.  “For in thee O Lord do I hope thou wilt hear O Lord My God.”  Psalms 38:15

Situations might look grim and it may seem like dark clouds may hang over you and skies over cast with the many trials that may be knocking at your door; but our encouragement to you today is to hope in God.

“Why are you down spirited and in despair and looking gloomy.  Expect good from the Lord.  Let Him fulfill your expectation with good.  I shall yet praise him for my help.”  Psalms 42:5

Praise will cause things to change. If you will just open up your mouth and let the praises of God come out you will find that your situation will change.  When Paul and Silas were thrown into prison, they could have gotten all down spirited and lose hope but they chose to pray and sing praises to God and were delivered out of that dilemma.

Things will not always go the way that you expect them to and people may not be who you expect them to be but know today that God never changes and He never fails.  Our confident expectation and expectation of its fulfillment should be in the Lord.  Take courage and be strong for as long as you trust God know that He is with you.  He is your expectation of good.

“Be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart all ye that hope in the Lord.”  Psalm 31: 24

Where ever you are today or what ever might be happening in your life; let it be known that there is hope in God.

“May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.”  Psalm 33:22

SINNER’S PRAYER

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and would like to accept Him today, please say the following prayer.

Dear God,

In the name of Jesus Christ, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I need a Savior. Forgive me of all my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Your Word says in Romans 10:9 and 10 that if I confess with my mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, I shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. I now confess Jesus Christ as Lord of my life. In Jesus’ Name, amen

Ms. Spencer has continued to proudly represent our country St. Lucia, with her remarkable talent and personality. Thus, we wish to suggest that our current government name a street in her honor.

LPM welcomes landmark signing

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

The leadership of the Lucian People’s Movement, LPM, welcomes the landmark signing of the treaty which took place in St. Lucia last Friday, as this takes the sub-region one step further along the road to becoming an even more effective group. This very significant achievement telegraphs the willingness of the people of this CARICOM sub-group, to continue to cooperate for the attainment of desirable developmental goals. It also demonstrates a laudable pattern of building on outstanding past achievements, such as the 40-year history of cooperation regarding our common currency, the EC dollar; and the establishment of joint diplomatic missions abroad since 1986.

The LPM also anticipates more rapid growth and development as some of the remaining challenges are overcome. This is much awaited as the OECS group continues to grow from strength to strength. There is every hope that the future will see a broadening and deepening of those mechanisms that will redound not only to the benefit of some economic sectors, but also to include those that will shepherd quality of life and human development improvements for all the population groups in member countries.”
